Therapeutic modalities
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), like most therapy methods, concentrates on the individual’s current concerns. The EMDR approach believes that past emotionally charged experiences overly impact your current emotions, sensations, and thoughts about yourself. For example: “Do you ever feel worthless although you know you are a worthwhile person?” EMDR processing helps you overcome emotional blocks that prevent you from living a healthy, adaptive life.

CPT
CPT is a cognitive-behavioral treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CPT was developed in the late 1980s and has proven effective in reducing PTSD symptoms related to various traumatic events, including child abuse, combat, rape, and natural disasters. It is endorsed by the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, as well as the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, as a best practice for treating PTSD. Cognitive/Talk Therapies
Cognitive therapy (CT) is a type of psychotherapy that addresses problematic behaviors and distressing emotional responses by identifying and correcting unhelpful and inaccurate thinking patterns. This involves the individual working with the therapist to develop skills for testing and changing beliefs, recognizing distorted thinking, relating to others differently, and modifying behaviors.

Addiction Treatment
Addiction treatment addresses both substance use disorders and behavioral or problematic behaviors.
Process problems include gaming, internet misuse, social media misuse, gambling, and other problematic behaviors.
Substance use disorders impact the brain and behavior, leading to problems at work, school, or in relationships. These disorders involve patterns of behavior that might include using more of the substance than intended, difficulty stopping, or continuing to use despite knowing it’s causing harm.
My addiction treatment services utilize several modalities such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Seeking Safety, and Stephanie Covington’s approaches to support individuals facing various behavioral issues and substance addiction disorders.
Indigenous Healing
As part of my work with Indigenous people and communities; I keep up with my practice by consulting with knowledge keepers and Elders to ensure I provide culturally appropriate help and support.
Clinical Consultation
Deborah Emmanuel-Ighodaro is a Registered Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience in direct clinical practice, treating mental health and addiction disorders, and 15 years of direct social work experience.
I come with a background of experience with people of all ages, including faith, black, ethnic, Indigenous, and minority groups in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
My consultation experience involves supporting clients in direct practice activities designed to guide and educate clinical social workers in assessment, treatment/intervention, identification and resolution of ethical issues, and evaluation of client interventions.
I will utilize the Kadusin function to deliver administrative, teaching, and support tasks, and collaboratively work with supervisees to achieve their goals for supervision.
My work with consultees will include helping them develop their counseling skills, teaching case conceptualization, modeling professionalism and emotional awareness, and fostering a two-way evaluation system between the consulting social worker and the consultee.
